Blog Post #1

Blog Post #1

My 21st Century Class room would be a second grade class room. I would teach Math and Science. There would be other teachers that are connected to my room, that would teach the other subjects, and the kids would walk to their other classes at the appropriate time to learn the other subjects. Krissy Venosdale, who is an inspirational educator who has an amazing blog, inspired me of what I want my class room to be like. I would want to have a huge reading pit with comfortable bean bag chairs for the students to take their ipads and read their books during reading time. My class room would have bright colors and would be just how a second grader would want it to be like. I also loved Krissy’s idea of a huge fish tank for the students to watch, and they could just sit there and think while watching the fish.

What do you want your students to know?

I would want my students to know how to use an Ipad. I would want every student to have his/her own Ipad for learning. I think the computer is a great way of learning. There are so many different computer programs that would be used to teach the students there subjects. There are games that would be helpful in learning multiplication tables that would be very helpful for the students. I would want each student to be able to identify the way they learn best, so I would have many different ways of teaching one subject.

What do you want your students to be able to do?

I would want my students to be able to use the Ipad to its full advantage. I would want to be able to give them a question and let them figure it out on their own through resources on the computer. I think a child learns better hands on and figuring it out on their own, more than a teacher giving them something to memorize.

What will be your primary way of teaching your students what you want them to know and to do?

I would use smart boards to teach the kids the stuff they needed to know in that days lesson. I would also have many different ways of teaching. I would use Ipads to teach certain things, and also have many group projects showing the kids how to communicate with other students. They would teach themselves which would be a better way of learning because they would get more out of it. I would also show them more than one way to do a problem when it comes to Math because not every child learns the same.

What tools will you use in your classroom?

I would use a smart board, Ipad, and computers. I would have many computers in the class room that if the student did not want to use the Ipad they could use the computer to do research.

What role will students play in your classroom, i.e. how will they participate in the learning process?

Students would do group projects on their Ipads and help one another research and find the solution to the question that I give them. They would help teach one another how to learn using the Ipad and computers. While I would be teaching them a lot of the stuff they need to know, they would also be learning from one another by using technology.

Dr. Pausch’s video was a very helpful video in time management. I learned that a to do list is very important in time management. At times, I have a bunch of stuff in my head that I need to get done, and it would be very smart if I would write it down in a list. I would get much more accomplished in the amount of time I have if I knew everything that I needed to get done. Also, the most important thing I learned from his video that make so much sense is to do the ugliest thing first. Once you get the most difficult task done that you are worried about, then your stress level would go down and you would be able to accomplish much more.

I realize EDM 310 is going to acquire a lot of time, so having good time management skills is crucial. I am going to start making a to do list and writing down in my planner the days in which I need to start a project. I am going to always look forward to see which projects are going to take more time than others and get the most difficult project done first.
